Menstrual Hygiene Management Session & Reusable Menstrual Pad Distribution

Introduction

On December 10, a session on Menstrual Hygiene Management, followed by the distribution of reusable sanitary pads, was conducted among 4-12 graders at Shree Mahendra Secondary School located in Kakani Gaaupalika, Nuwakot. Located just 75 km west of Kathmandu, Nuwakot is a hilly district in Bagmati Province with most of the areas still undeveloped.

 

Major activities under MHD 2021

Menstrual Hygiene Management Session

A 45 minutes session on Menstrual Hygiene Management was conducted at the seminar hall of the school where students learned the basic components of menstrual hygiene and its management. After the session, many students also shared with us their stories on how menstruation is perceived by their families, the prevailing taboos as well as the hygienic practices they follow during this time.  

Reusable Menstrual Pad Distribution 

Post MHM session, a total of 150 female students were distributed with reusable sanitary pads alongside the clarification of the economic, environmental, and health wise value of using a reusable pad. The students as well as the school administration showed thankfulness mentioning that they had till day not thought of a pad that could be reused.
